Welcome to discover Argentine tango!
Argentine tango is an emotional and intimate partner dance. While it can be a spectacular show dance, it is first and foremost a social dance that anyone can learn. Tango Arcón ry is an Argentine tango association based in Jyväskylä. We invite you to explore this wonderful dance form!

The class covers a few key basics. No prior experience in partner dancing is required. Please wear comfortable clothing and indoor shoes with smooth soles. No registration is needed — just show up. You do not need to bring a partner. We will rotate partners during the class, though if you arrive with a partner, you are welcome to dance only with each other if you prefer.

REFRESH SESSION: Sept 5, 2026, 14:45 PM - 16:15 PM

The refresh session by Tango Arcón is an Argentine tango class for anyone wishing to review the basics. This class is particularly suitable for those with about 6 months to a year of dancing experience who have taken a break — such as a summer hiatus — from tango. Of course, reviewing the fundamentals is beneficial for more experienced dancers as well.
No advance registration is required. Partner rotation is optional during the class; you may also choose to dance exclusively with your own partner

MEMBERSHIP OF TANGO ARCÒN

Participation in classes requires Tango Arcón membership. For absolute beginners, the first weekly class is free (does not apply to the refresh session). Admission to events is granted upon presentation of a payment receipt.

Please remember to pay your membership fee at the start of the season. This entitles you to attend classes at the member rate and participate in weekend workshops and other events. If you are paying the reduced membership fee or seasonal fee, please present your student ID once at the start of the season when attending classes.

Payments to the bank account: Tango Arcón FI28 5290 0220 3279 00. While paying the memberfee write on the message box 'jäsenmaksu', your own name and the year. Also on the reference box please write your hometown, phone number and email address. This information goes to the member register. All payments only to the bank account please.

BASIC LEVEL

You ar welcome to learn the passionate Argentine tango! The group is suitable for beginners; no prior dance experience is required. The goal is to learn the basic elements of Argentine tango and how to dance it as a social dance. The first session is free for absolute beginners. You can attend without a partner. No registration is required. Wear casual clothing and indoor shoes with smooth soles.

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

You may attend without a partner and without any advance registration.

PRICES FOR CLASSES

Classes are for the members of Tango Arcón only and on the first class of the season you should have the receipt or picture of the paid memberfee. There are also free practicas for the members´ and Milonga del Lunes are free too but please give a little tip to the dj :)Workshopfees for members:

  • Two classes in a week (the whole autumn or spring season): 160 €, referencenumber 31202, students and retired 140 €, referencenumber 31257.
  • 5 lessons card 45 €, referencenumber 31309.
  • One lesson 10 € (a random non-member 15 €), referencenumber 31406.
  • Sundays´ special theme lessons are 10 €, referencenumber 31406 but you may also use 5 lessons card to pay these lessons.

OUR TEACHERS

Raija Aittakumpu-Hydén  040 5739062

Raija began dancing tango in 2007. She felt an immediate affinity for the dance and has served as class assistant and subsequently instructor since 2008. She has sought instruction from a wide range of teachers in Finland, Europe and Buenos Aires. She has also completed the STOL tango instructor training program. Raija dances in both  the follower and leader roles and attends international tango events several times a year.

Timo Hydén 041 5505858

Timo became passionate about argentine tango in the late 1990s after seeing an international tango show and has been dancing it ever since. Initially tango studies required extensive travelling.He began teaching regularly in 2005. His teaching combines technique, sequences and danceability –  all with a touch of humour. He also travels to international tango events with Raija.

Ritva Forsström

Matti Ilmavirta matti.ilmavirta@dlc.fi tai puh. 0400 635228

Matti´s involvement in tango began so long ago that, in his own admission, he hardly remembers the very beginning. He has been teaching in Jyväskylä regularly since 2008, though he had already conducted workshops in various locations prior to that. Matti possesses extensive international training and dancing experience including trips to Argentina – the birthplace of tango. His teaching emphasizes precise movement analysis and technique.


Maria Korpela 

Maria has been dancing argentine tango since 2005. Her studies include 10 visits to Buenos Aires learning and dancing tango. She has been teaching tango since 2005. Maria primarily dances the follower`s role but is also proficient in the leaders role. Over the years she has become familiar with international tango festivals and tango marathons and continues to attend them regularly. Maria is also an excellent tango-DJ.

Fernando Waisberg is an Argentine tango dancer, teacher and choreographer from Buenos Aires, with many years of teaching experience in Europe and Asia. He is also a qualified Physical Education teacher, which gives him a strong pedagogical background and practical tools for teaching movement and body awareness. His classes combine clear, progressive instruction with a focus on connection, musicality and the joy of social dancing.
